"Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). This psalm verse gives us the best and most important advice at this time. Our schedules have been completely changed. We don't know what to do and when to do it. Schools are closed, church is closed, and for most of us work is closed or we are working from home. It is unsettling, confusing, and distressing. You may be asking yourself, "What do I do?" I know that I am. I no longer have a schedule because my scheduled has essentially been cancelled. What then do we do?
First, heed the command of Psalm 46:10, God speaks to us, "Be stil and know that I am God." Jesus is present to us and asking us to stop and rest in Him. We have more time now..more time for God in prayer, for family, and for friends. We can use this time to prioritze our lives more intentionally. We are no longer guided by any outside authority or activity. We have the freedom to choose to make time for God, family and friends more of a priority. What will we do?
To the children, you are still students and have the responsibility to do your school work and follow the guidance of your parents and teachers. God commands that as well, "Honor your father and your mother" and included with that He intends your teachers too.
To the adults, incuding myself, let's make a schedule. I was speaking with a mother just yesterday and she realized the importance of making a specific schedule for the family. We need routine in our lives to stay focused and accomplish our goals. Given the disruption to my daily routine, yesterday I posted my schedule plan of prayer to keep me focused, effective and able to accomplish my primary goal to worship God and pray for all of you. I urge you if you have not already done so, put together a regular schedule for yourself and your family. Prioritize prayer, work, exercise, play/recreaton, and rest. Routines can help us keep our sanity as well!
Finally, please find time for laughter and lightness in these times that can be intense. I will include in my daily news something that hopefully will help lighten your mood. Here is today's
"Holy Humor".
You are all very much in my thoughts and prayers daily and thank you for your prayers as well. Let us all remember to keep those who are fighting on the frontlines during this time: medical professionals, firefighters, policemen, first resonders, and our civil leaders. God bless you all, parishioners and friends of St. Mark Church.
